Steel Production

Cylinders for the mill floor — furnace, caster, and rolling equipment that runs hot, dirty, and continuous.

← All industries

A steel plant is one of the most hostile environments hydraulic equipment operates in, and heat is the reason. Radiant load from furnaces, ladles, and hot strip cooks seals that would last indefinitely anywhere else, and mill scale and dust find their way onto every rod. On top of that, a mill runs continuously — process interruptions are expensive, so a cylinder on a caster or a screwdown is expected to run around the clock and hold process tolerances while it does.

Temperature drives the whole design. FKM (Viton) seals handle the fluid and ambient temperatures that would destroy standard Buna, and where radiant load is severe the build adds heat shielding and material choices that keep the seal cavity within range. Rod finish and wiper selection are chosen to shrug off abrasive scale, because a scored rod on a caster is a process defect, not just a maintenance item. On rolling-mill screwdowns and roll-balance cylinders, position accuracy and stiffness matter — the cylinder is part of holding gauge on the product, so it is built stiff and sized with margin.

This is precision heavy equipment in a punishing setting, so the priority is the right materials, the right seals for the heat, and a build that holds tolerance under continuous load. We build furnace, caster, and mill cylinders to the print with high-temperature packages, and we reverse-engineer obsolete units where the mill's envelope is fixed and the OEM is long gone. Every cylinder is pressure-tested to its rated working pressure before it ships.

Representative applications

  • Furnace door, tilt, and charging cylinders
  • Continuous-caster mold oscillation and segment cylinders
  • Rolling-mill screwdown and roll-balance cylinders
  • Ladle and tundish car cylinders
  • Coil handling and shear cylinders

Put the right cylinder on your steel production equipment.
