Quality & About

Since 1970.
One standard.

WestCraft Manufacturing has built custom cylinders in Alto, Texas since 1970 — for OEMs who measure suppliers in decades, not orders.

A Texas shop that kept its word

Gerald West started WestCraft with a simple proposition: build cylinders exactly to the customer's print, test every one, and answer the phone when it rings.

More than fifty years later that's still the whole business model. The equipment is newer, the quality system is ISO-certified, and many customer relationships are older than the engineers' kids — but a quote from WestCraft still means the price and the date hold.

Inside the shop

From your print to your dock — one roof, six stops.

Every operation that decides your lead time happens inside our Alto, Texas plant. Here's the path a cylinder takes, start to finish.

  1. 01 Spec & quote

    It starts with your print

Send a drawing, a STEP file, an application load, or the worn cylinder itself. We confirm bore, stroke, mounting, pressure, and duty cycle, then return a firm price and a real lead time — the one the shop can hold, because every operation happens here.

  2. 02 Engineering

Engineered to the load, not a catalog

Engineering turns the requirement into a drawing — sizing the rod against buckling, selecting seals for the fluid and temperature, and detailing the weldment or tie-rod build. You see the design before any steel is cut.

  3. A WestCraft technician in a hard hat moving raw tube stock under an overhead hoist on the shop floor
    03 · Machining

    03 Machining

Cut, honed, and turned to size

Tube is honed and rod is finished to size; barrels, glands, pistons, and end caps are machined to the drawing — on the same floor, by the same crew that will assemble them. Short-run custom to scheduled OEM volume runs the same line.

  4. 04 Assembly

Built by one crew, start to finish

Welded or tie-rod construction, seals installed, rod and piston assembled into the honed tube. The people who machine your cylinder are the people who build it — nothing gets handed off to another building.

  5. 05 Pressure test

    100% pressure-tested, then documented

Every cylinder is pressure-tested above its rated working pressure under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system, and inspected dimensionally against your print. Material certs and the test record are filed to the serial number.

  6. A flatbed truck loaded with WestCraft's own painted hydraulic cylinders, racked and ready to ship
    06 · Crate & ship

    06 Crate & ship

    Nothing leaves the building twice

Painted, crated, and staged for the truck — with the certificate and test record in the crate. Down and waiting on it? The shop will tell you straight whether it can move up.

Want to see it in person? OEMs are welcome to tour the floor — set up a visit.

Work with a supplier your grandkids will inherit.
